Mls Socca Player, Shalrie David Jamal Joseph, was born in St. George’s, Grenada on May 24, 1978. Shalrie grew up on the small West Indies Island with a population of only 100,000 people. He remembers as a child living through the US Invasion of Grenada in 1983 in which the US military sent over 10,000 troops to forcefully remove the revolutionary government. Shalrie permanently moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1993 at the age of 15 to live with his mother. Shalrie finished out his high school education in Crown Heights Brooklyn. continue
Model, Vivian Charlott Burkhardt, (born January 24, 1986) is a beauty queen who represented Grenada in Miss World 2007 in Sanya, People's Republic of China, where she placed as one of the semi-finalists. Having graduated from The TA Marryshow Community College with an Associate Degree in Natural Science, she has completed her studies as a pre-med student at St. George's University. Miss World 1970, Jennifer Hosten, born in St. George's, Grenada. She was 22 when she won the Miss World contest in December 1970 and so the more likely of the two dates of birth that are reported is 12 March 1948. She studied in London and then worked for the BBC's Caribbean radio service before becoming a flight attendant. The 1970 contest was held in London, United Kingdom. The Unstoppable, Super Blue, Born in St Andrews, Grenada, By Grenadian mother and father cantay lyons, he migrated to trinidad & tobago at a young age and became famous from his first foray into the calypso tent world in 1980 with Soca Baptist a song he penned in 1979. Soca Baptist also won him his first Carnival Road March Monarch in 1980, while giving him the biggest win at that time though the magnitude of that win would be dwarfed by his own subsequent landslide victories. King Of Calypso, The Mighty Sparrow, (born Slinger Francisco, July 9, 1935, in Grand Roy, Grenada, West Indies) is a calypso singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Known as the "Calypso King of the World," he is one of the most well-known and successful calypsonians. He has won Trinidad's Carnival Road March competition eight times and has been named Calypso Monarch eleven times. Grenadian Sprinter Kirani James, (Born September 01 1992) is a Grenadian sprinter who specializes in the 200 and 400 metres. He currently is a freshman at the University of Alabama. At the age of 14 he won the gold medal in the 400 m at the 2007 CARIFTA Games in the under 17 category with a time of 47.86 seconds. He went on to win silver medals at the 2007 World Youth Championships with a time of 46.96 s a time which is the fastest run by a 14 year old.
